Bark Butter

3/4 c chunky peanut butter

3/4 c shortening

1 T honey or corn syrup

1 box corn muffin mix (like Jiffy mix)

3/4 c oatmeal

3/4 c birdseed (the mixed kind with sunflower seeds)

Cream the peanut butter, shortening, & syrup until well mixed.

Stir in dry ingredients until well blended.

Fill holes on feeder (we use a small putty knife)

This is our feeder.  It is a 4x6x18 cedar timber.  There are 3 holes on 3 sides toward the top. (Leave room on the bottom for the birds to perch.  We didn't put holes on the side away from the house)  The holes are 1 1/4 dia and about 1 inch deep.  We put a 1 5/8 dia hole in the bottom about 5 inches deep so it will slip over a steel post.  You could put a lag eye or wire or rope bail in the top and hang it.

The feeder could be made from any scrap wood or piece of fire wood but I would not recommend pressure treated lumber.
